There are many reasons people want to brush up their driving skills, and by having refresher lessons, you can target any specific areas you wish.

It may be you haven't driven for a while, maybe you never needed to go on a motorway, and now you do, or just never really were happy with reversing or parking, or even night driving.

You may be a student taking a car to university, and would like some motorway experience, or starting a new job, and want to brush up your general driving skills, but whatever your requirements, Rabs Driving will tailor a training program just for you. This may be a number of lessons, or even just a single lesson, but whatever you need, we're happy to help.

Statistics prove that the risk of having an accident is highest during the first few years of driving after passing the driving test. This is why the Government launched the Pass Plus programme. Backed by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and major motor insurance companies, it is designed to help new drivers gain more experience and become better equipped for the demands of modern driving, although it can be taken by any driver at any time.

The PASS PLUS course is a minimum of six hours, split into six modules, covering driving:

• in town
• in all weathers
• on rural roads
• at night
• on dual carriageways
• on motorways

All the modules are practical sessions wherever possible, although local conditions may mean some are theory based.

The good news is that there is NO TEST! You will be continually assessed throughout the course by your instructor, David, who is qualified and accredited to assess the Pass Plus scheme. To pass you’ll have to reach the required standard in all the modules.

When you've achieved the required standard and completed Pass Plus you have to apply for your own Pass Plus certificate (if you want one). Rabs Driving will give you the necessary application paperwork, all you have to do is sign it and post it to the DVSA.

After completion you may be able to obtain a discount from many insurance companies (you will need your certificate for this), subject to your personal circumstances, however, the amount of discount depends on the insurance company, and not all insurers offer Pass Plus discounts, so check yours.

However, insurance discounts shouldn't be the main reason for taking the course, as the purpose of the Pass Plus scheme is to give you confidence and experience in a range of real world driving, without 'L' plates!
